Flymo Easi Glide 300 Review
The Flymo Easi Glide 300 is a small, lightweight hover mower manufactured by Flymo, designed for small gardens.
It comes with a 1300W motor, and connects to mains power using a 12m power cable. The mower has a 30cm wide metal blade, which can be adjusted to 4 different cutting heights, between 10mm and 30mm.
This is a hover mower, and does not have a mulching plug or a rear roller. It’s designed for simple mowing of small patches of grass, which is why the grass box is relatively small, at just 20 litres.
Assembly
This is one of the few lawn mowers you can buy in the UK that requires basically no assembly.
When it arrives, all you need to do is attach the handle and fold it into position. The grass box, blade, and everything else you need is already in place, ready assembled.
This is a big positive for most people, as lawn mowers often come with the grass box detached. It can be fiddly to get it in place on some lawn mowers.
Ease of use
Another area where the Easi Glide 300 excels is its ease of use.
For starters, it’s very lightweight, at just 8.5KG, making it extra manoeuvrable. It takes very little effort to move this lawn mower around, in large part because it has no wheels. Since it’s a hover mower, it glides on a cushion of air over your grass, helped by the fact that it’s so lightweight.
This mower is also easy to control, in terms of side to side movement. The grass box is stored centrally in the main housing rather than at the back of the mower. This helps to keep the mower small, and reduce its centre of gravity. As a result, it’s very beginner-friendly – you don’t need to be an expert to cut your grass with this mower.
However, there is one minor issue with the Easi Glide 300 from a usability point of view – adjusting the cutting height. To change how high you’re cutting your grass, you need to flip the mower over, take off the blade, and add or remove spacers, before screwing the blade back in place using the provided tool.
This cutting height adjustment method is fairly typical on a mower at this price. You will need to buy a more expensive mower to find something with an easy adjustment lever. Although it’s not difficult to adjust the blade manually, it does take a bit of extra effort.
Power
The 1300W electric motor included on the Flymo Easi Glide 300 provides plenty of power – both for cutting and for creating a constant air cushion for the mower to move around on.
You won’t have any issues with mowing thick grass, or with the mower failing to hover. 1300W is plenty powerful for a mower this lightweight.
Also, you get a 12m power cord with this lawn mower – a relatively long cable length. Many other corded electric mowers come with a shorter 10m cable. This extra two metres can be really useful, especially if you have a small but narrow garden, with the edge of your lawn a long way away from the nearest power outlet.
Mowing effectiveness
The Flymo Easi-Glide 300 performs extremely well, especially given what it costs. It cuts easily, and leaves a clean finish, even on slightly thicker grass.
Your lawn clippings actually end up in the grass box, unlike on some other cheap mowers, as long as you mow in mostly straight lines, helping to keep your lawn neat and tidy. It can even handle slight slopes and uneven ground, because it’s a hover mower.
The only limitation to this mower is its size. It has a 30cm cutting width, and a quite small 20 litre grass collection box, with a vision window. This is only enough for a small to medium sized gardens – if you use it on a medium or large lawn you’ll be mowing (and emptying the grass collection box) all day.
This electric hover collect lawn mower might also struggle to cut up to the very edge of your lawn. You may need to use a strimmer or shears to get these edge areas of grass.
Mulching
As is to be expected from a hover mower at this price, there is no mulching function on the Easi Glide 300 electric hover collect lawn mower. You will need to collect grass cuttings in the included grass collection box.
We have a guide on mulching mowers if this is what you’re looking for.
Ergonomics
As a more basic mower, the Easi Glide 300 doesn’t have many advanced ergonomic features, such as self propulsion – you’ll have to push it around manually.
However, this mower is still very comfortable to use. There are triggers on either side of the handle at the top of the mower, rather than just one side. This means you can use either hand to control the mower. Many other cheaper lawn mowers only include a trigger on the right side of the handle, which can become uncomfortable if you’re left-handed, or are mowing for an extended period.
This machine is very quiet, even for an electric mower. It also has a safety switch to ensure you don’t turn it on accidentally, and the handle is easy to fold down for storage.
Durability
From looking at pictures of this mower, you might be worried about the amount of plastic used. The orange grass box, handle, and the top of the mower itself are mostly made of plastic.
However, provided you take good care of it, this mower is actually very durable. Although it may not feel extremely sturdy, because it’s so lightweight, it’s actually quite tough. The motor won’t wear out over the years, and since there’s no battery, you don’t have to worry about its charge capacity falling over time.
The blades are easy to sharpen, and can be replaced quite cheaply if needed. Flymo also includes a 2 year warranty with this mower, which is nice. Just ensure to register your product on their website soon after buying – otherwise your warranty will only last for 12 months.
Value for money
The Flymo Easi Glide 300 is excellent value for money. It allows for easy mowing and doesn’t cost much at all.
For the price, you get a lot in return. This mower isn’t perfect for all gardens – we wouldn’t recommend it for large lawns. But for smaller areas, it does a great job.
The only thing you don’t get much of, given the price, is grass box capacity. The 20 litre grass collector is very small. However, if it were any bigger, the mower would be too.
The verdict
4.2/5 – excellent hover collect lawn mower for small areas of grass
If you have a small lawn, and want a cheap, effective, and easy way to mow it, the Easi Glide 300 electric hover mower is a great choice.
Although it’s not the most advanced mower on the market, it’s easy to use, and offers a good cut. It even collects your grass cuttings, unlike many hover mowers at this price.
